What’s appropriate dress/shoes for Ireland?

Can someone from Ireland please shed some light on how students dress.
I’m going to study abroad in Limerick for the Spring semester (Jan-May), and I’m moving from Texas. (I’ve barely come to terms with the new weather I’ll be facing!)

I hear jeans & t-shirts are okay, which is cool, cos that’s all i wear.
I was wondering how one would stay fashionably warm and dry- I read somewhere that college-age kids aren’t big on wearing coats, that sweatshirts are more of the norm??
I’m most concerned about shoes- are running shoes a yes or a no-no… no white socks, or something odd?
what shoes are acceptable in pubs? I’m a huge fan of high heeled boots- should i leave those behind in my “wouldn’t work for Eire pile” or bring em along?

Yes most people wear jeans, tshirts and sweat shirts or hoodies (fitted sweat shirt with a zip down the front) Just go casual on your first day then you will see there’s nothing to worry about fashion wise you will see all sorts of styles, not so much dressing up like in a preppy way during college but at night depending on where you are going it is perfectly aceptable to doll up to the nines, you will get to know which pubs to dress up for and which to wear casual in.
Yes running shoes are worn a lot in college but not in pubs so much especially at night. Bring your boots!
Girls here wear a lot of sweetheart dresses and glamour at night but mainly on the weekend but jeans and a tshirt are also acceptable, people do wear jackets and coats, you will need them! People tend to dress in layers so they can peel off if indoors. And black tights/panty hose are very popular with skirts/dresses. It all really depends on your own style. It’s ok to be different and stand out but the norm in college is jeans, casual shoes/runners/ugg boots, tshirts, hoodies or sweatshirts, I noticed girls who got dressed up and wore piles of make up during college were kind of sniggered at. Just be your self at college, relax and then at the weekend dress to kill or not and enjoy yourself!
