Best boots for Montreal on a budget?

I’m new in Mtl and attending school here, so unfortunately I don’t have a lot of money BUUT I definitely need some good winter boots that are comfortable. I used to hate UGGs but they seem to be the most comfortable and a lot of people wear them here. Is sheepskin waterproof/will keep your feet warm and dry during the Mtl winter? I cannot afford UGGs but I could maybe spring for cheaper versions like Emu or Yellow Shoes’ brand Riverland which are both also Authentic Australian sheepskin apparently.

Some types that I find that are really good are: Columbia, Merrell, North Face. These ones are very well made, and will last you a long time. They are approximately between 150-200$, but they are well worth it.
