What kind of shoes do pro athletes use before the advent of modern athletic footwear such as sneakers?

As before staples and slippers, just wear regular shoes? What about golf tacos, or Chuck Taylor in basketball? Just curious.

If sports shoes modern means sneakers from the 1970s, the answer is: Converse had a virtual monopoly in the market for athletics until the 1970s. The school secondary, university and professional teams that use Converse Chuck Taylor to work outside in USA football and baseball players wearing shoes needle (this was before indoor turf) for the game, however. Of course, basketball players would wear Chucks in Black or White. As for the (tennis of all levels), Many players would wear Keds or Converse Jack Purcell sneakers. Other professional sports (eg, racing, boating, etc.) using a mixture of the above shoes casual sports shoes and not leather shoe.
