Historically Leicester has always been more closely associated with clothing and footwear manufacturing operations. While the employment profile of the city of Leicester shows the highest proportion of city workers who are engaged in manufacturing, over 23%, and no large employers in major industries of the city. Much of this has reduced the export of clothing and footwear manufacturing base in Eastern Europe and Asia. Although manufacturers are still many small, none of them can be called a major employer and many of those involved in manufacturing jobs was working out of town.

Equity Shoes, whose factory is on Western Road, is a rare survivor of the once thriving shoe makers in the city. Founded in 1886, the company now employs about 150 people making high quality shoes and boots for European and American markets. It also has a dedicated line into the shoes of the men to dance. The weekly change over the company is about 5000 pairs of shoes.

Cute and cuddly, producing a wide range of baby clothing, is one of the few major clothing manufacturers still found in Leicester. Its factory is in Vulcan Road, which was the traditional heart of the garment industry in the city.

Probably the largest employer connected to the construction industry is all sectors, which, not surprisingly, produce and deliver aggregate materials. They are based in Bardon Hill, near Coalville, more than 10 miles northwest of Leicester, where the extract of rock, sand and gravel from local quarries and regional. Also in the construction sector Caterpillar that meet the small vehicles for use in the construction industry in Desford.

Originally founded in 1849 in Southgate Street in the city of The brewery Everards Leicester is now located at Narborough. Founded in 1970 Jemsox Limited began life in 1934 as Debonair, production of children's socks shore and then 'cut' Material – nylon. It now stands at Welford Road, one of the old buildings Victoria Mills, Jemsox is beginning to extend its lines and has launched a range of socks for men under the original name of Debonair.

A multitude of small garment manufacturers do not continue to do business in the city of Leicester. Many other clothing manufacturers have moved outside the city, including the outdoor clothing specialist Bruntwood Company, based in Hinckley.

Dreamworld specialize in Ivanhoe Street Leicester Wear in dance. An old established company that produces dance clothes ballet costumes to dress formal ballroom. They can also produce designs to order.

Since 1974 Fashionware Manufacturers Limited, or MLF, have been producing jeans and casual pants at its factory in Gypsy Lane. Capable of producing 30,000 garments a week, also has facilities manufacturing in Morocco and Tunisia. FML is now one of the largest employers in the garment industry in Leicester.

Leicester also has all companies that make up what is known as the "service sector" as well as historical production base. Somewhere between the two records is the Training. Founded in 1989, its biggest claim to fame is being the original label after a pop group called Oasis sign. The main office of the training records is of Charles Street in the downtown.

Surpac Minex is a software development company specializing in software for industry support mining. Unsurprisingly, given the history of coal mining in Leicestershire their main UK offices are in Coalville, Leicestershire.

A leading provider of IT support to local firms is limited Ulysses in the Business Center in Humberstone Lane Troon. They can provide remote or support site problems IT companies or development issues.
