is it legal for a state high school to force pupils to wear uniform?

The little things – like outdoor jackets, choice of footwear, etc. The head teacher is forcing black shoes, and attempting to stop people wearing even denim jackets. Disagreement is expulsion, so I’m wonderring, is this not illegal?

An EXCELLENT idea! And likely quite legal as well! Uniforms act to decrease violence and bullying caused by some students thinking they’re superior to others based on dress. When all students are dressed identically, the lack of differences helps to concentrate efforts in other directions.
