Real vs Engineered hardwood, pre-finished wood?

I just purchased an 80-year old house I am renovating. One thing you need to do is the floor. In the bedrooms, hallway, staircase, living room and dining room, I want hardwood floors. These are things to consider: 1. I have a dog, and even nail clippings are kept, which running around a lot 2. The house is second from Lake Erie (I can see the lake from the front door), so that moisture can be a problem 3. I will be installing of that (with help) Also, the front door enters directly into the room. Is it possible to insert a section of tiles for the front door area (for save shoes wet floors)?

With the issue of moisture, the plant engineering would be a better option, but would also recommend that paste it down instead of stapling it. You still can refinish laminate floor up to three times depending on the manufacturer. The finish is also more resistant to dogs. You can insert tiles, engineered wood but would hold good in the lobby area.
